25 Cent Coffee

Image

With my now later work schedule, I planned a breakfast date with my future mother in law. She picked out this adorable cafe in downtown Beaverton called the Beaverton Sub Shop. The place was decorated with all kinds of vintage old timey- goodness with an emphasis on trains.

Image

The menu almost transported you back in time with their low prices- I don’t think there was an item over $5!

Image

We also watched as fresh bread was brought over from their neighbors at the Beaverton Bakery. Yum! I got a simple turkey & cream cheese bagel and some of their delicious 25 cent coffee. We settled down at a table outside to enjoy the warm weather and some conversation. I went in to use the bathroom and discovered a whole other part of the shop that had been creatively collaged

Image

It was a really charming morning and I look forward to doing it again! Although I will advise you not to drink more than one cup of the 25 cent coffee. That stuff is rocket fuel! I got halfway through my second cup and started shaking (and I drink a lot of coffee daily so I was really surprised!).

Hula!

Here is the newest arrival and addition to my MLP collection- Hula! She is ever so sassy in her tropical neon colors.

Fathers Day Weekend

We start Fathers Day on Saturday at our house and it goes all weekend! We kicked off Saturday with a hearty breakfast at Black Bear Diner.

As tradition dictates, we then headed out to the Rose City Round Up car. You can see pictures from that in my blog entry “Rose City Round Up”.

After a beautiful but scorching couple hours at the show we headed back to town., For Fathers Day, Tony had requested we detail his car. The sun was out and it was extra hot- we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better day for it! So Diesel and I hosed and scrubbed down the car. Being as we are Oregonians and are unaccustomed to sun I completely forget to put on sunscreen and ended up with a pretty gnarly (and painful!) sunburn.

Image

It was totally worth it though because his car looked gorgeous!

On Sunday we slept in! And Tony woke up to a sweet handmade card from Diesel

We decided to catch an early showing of “The Avengers” and used some saved up gift certificates. We devoured the candy and other treats we snuck in as well as the free popcorn and soda we scored. Wow! What an awesome movie! It made me feel like I did when I was a little kid and went to the movies.

Afterward we decided such a hot day warranted a late lunch at one of our favorite sushi places.

After that we headed over to Fred Meyers to pick up some Lego mini figs to add to Tonys collection and some blue cheese for the hot wings we would devour later that night.

While there we had waaay too much fun in the toy aisle

Next we swung by Buffalo Wild Wings to pick up our hot wings and settle in for a relaxing Sunday night.

Tony was very happy with his fathers day weekend.

Rose City Round

Image

A new Fathers Day tradition for us is the Rose City Round Up. This is our second year going and I was so excited to take pictures! Here are a few of my favorite from the day. Enjoy!

These pictures were especially exciting for me as I could see a noticeable improvement from the ones I took last year! I’m really proud of these ones. I took many more photos at the Rose City Round Up that you can view here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151030781208142.483578.781233141&type=3&l=3268e09760

Sometimes I Write

Shattered glass on the concrete
Splintered memories
Intermittent sleep
Seeing my shadow
lay across the ground
Sounds so clear
but the pictures are faded
Out of order
In places I never left them
The sun on my skin
reminds me
of something
That never was
Never belonged to me

Baby Firefly

I finally got one of the MLP’s I ordered off ebay in the mail! Baby Firefly!

Image

She is just beautiful! Now I’m just waiting to get Hula in the mail. It’s starting to feel like I have a real collection!

Justin’s June Birthday BBQ

The menacing grey clouds made me wonder if Justin’s birthday BBQ might get rained out. After some intermittent sun though the clouds cleared and gave a warm sunny June day to accompany the BBQ.

Their yard was beautiful and all the flowers were in full bloom

Diesel took full advantage of the space by organizing a make shift baseball game

Meanwhile I enjoyed relaxing in the sun and taking pictures of the many dogs also attending the BBQ

Image

Image

The dogs seemed much more interested in what was on the grill than posing for the camera

Image

Justin loved his presents

Image

And after a few drinks the usual party shannanigans ensued!

Image

Everyone had a blast, the food was top notch, and as always it was so awesome to get to hang out with some of my favorite people. Happy Birthday Justin!

Van Con

I’ve been trolling the geekportland.com website to find more nerdy events in the area. One that caught my eye was Van Con in Vancouver, WA. It was a “convention” being held in a mall- so basically a few tables with local vendors. It sounded like a perfect Saturday morning adventure! So we pulled out some cash and headed across the bridge!

We arrived at your standard mall and found Van Con in a now vacant store space.

Image

It was a tiny space filled with vintage toys, geeky home made goods, artists, and games

I enjoyed chatting with the artists and picked up a couple Rogue prints as well as a Batman headband. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning!

Sizoap

Last night I went to my friends Yvonne’s house expecting a trip to the thrift stores. Instead I walked in on what looked like lab and found out that instead we were making liquid soap!

*insert “Fight Club” reference here*

The counter was covered in bowls, mason jars, and all manner of stirring devices.

Image

Her whole apartment had that “just showered” smell. I’m always down for a new adventure so I took up a stirring post while Yvonne raced around the kitchen smelling, funneling, and stirring like a mad scientist!

Image

Although we did break momentarily for dinner and some of her delicious cupcakes!

Image

We got the final product into mason jars and gallon jugs. Soap for days!

Image

To distinguish the scents, Yvonne made up some adorable labels.

Image

Image

Image

I got sent home with four jars of our sudsy creations!

A word of warning though- make sure you rinse all your bowls, pots, and utensils thoroughly before you put them in the dishwasher!

Our next crafty adventure? Home made body butter!!!

If you want to make you own soap, you can find the recipe here: http://www.thefarmersnest.com/2011/11/liquid-hand-soap-diy.html

My Little Pony

When I was little, my very favorite toys were my My Little Pony figures. I remember playing with them for hours and vaguely recall watching the cartoon. I’ve been toying with the idea of collecting them again, but wasn’t totally sold until I saw the ones for sale at Wonder Northwest. Now I’m really excited to get going on this collection! So far I’ve only collected two, but I’m cruising ebay and am well on my way to starting my collection and reclaiming my childhood.
