I just started a new book. So far I’m having a hard time putting it down!

Boss lady has a hook up to get free zoo tickets and with the weatherman promise of sunny weather on my day off I thought Diesel & I would go.
My friend Brooke and her little brother decided to come along too!
The animals seemed to be out in full force so it was a great day for taking pictures!
As you can tell the heat was making some of the animals sleepy. The animals below were my favorite from the day because they seemed to love to pose and show off for the cameras!
After a couple hours of walking we stopped for pizza and ice cream
Afterward we hit up a few of the other zoo sights, like one of my personal favorites- the Atrium.
We got to ogle even more impressive birds on the lawn.
We checked out the mini elephant museum with a life sized elephant skeleton
Diesel of course found the one football related display in the whole zoo
and lots of other fun little things
Last but certainly not least, we decided to catch the zoo train for a leisurely 35 minute ride.
We had a great time and although we didn’t get any sunshine, the weather held up pretty nicely and we escaped sunburn free!

Tony and I both had Friday off this week, so we decided to go to breakfast after dropping Diesel off at day camp
We headed out to one of our favorite breakfast spots from our old neighborhood called Fat City Cafe. This is where we originally discovered our love for Aardvark Hot Sauce. It’s a tiny breakfast/lunch diner (probably has the smallest bathroom I’ve ever seen too!) covered in funny license plates and road trip memorabilia.
The food is always to die for! I indulged in peach waffles, bacon, & a half order of biscuits and gravy (which I was unable to finish).
Our waiter was a riot and sang along to the great tunes they had going (such as Bad to the Bone and other favorites of the like).
On the walk (more like waddle) back to the car I couldn’t help but admire the beautiful spring flowers. I snapped a couple shots before Tony threatened to leave without me.
A great kid-free morning all around!
With my now later work schedule, I planned a breakfast date with my future mother in law. She picked out this adorable cafe in downtown Beaverton called the Beaverton Sub Shop. The place was decorated with all kinds of vintage old timey- goodness with an emphasis on trains.
The menu almost transported you back in time with their low prices- I don’t think there was an item over $5!
We also watched as fresh bread was brought over from their neighbors at the Beaverton Bakery. Yum! I got a simple turkey & cream cheese bagel and some of their delicious 25 cent coffee. We settled down at a table outside to enjoy the warm weather and some conversation. I went in to use the bathroom and discovered a whole other part of the shop that had been creatively collaged
It was a really charming morning and I look forward to doing it again! Although I will advise you not to drink more than one cup of the 25 cent coffee. That stuff is rocket fuel! I got halfway through my second cup and started shaking (and I drink a lot of coffee daily so I was really surprised!).
We start Fathers Day on Saturday at our house and it goes all weekend! We kicked off Saturday with a hearty breakfast at Black Bear Diner.
As tradition dictates, we then headed out to the Rose City Round Up car. You can see pictures from that in my blog entry “Rose City Round Up”.
After a beautiful but scorching couple hours at the show we headed back to town., For Fathers Day, Tony had requested we detail his car. The sun was out and it was extra hot- we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better day for it! So Diesel and I hosed and scrubbed down the car. Being as we are Oregonians and are unaccustomed to sun I completely forget to put on sunscreen and ended up with a pretty gnarly (and painful!) sunburn.
It was totally worth it though because his car looked gorgeous!
On Sunday we slept in! And Tony woke up to a sweet handmade card from Diesel
We decided to catch an early showing of “The Avengers” and used some saved up gift certificates. We devoured the candy and other treats we snuck in as well as the free popcorn and soda we scored. Wow! What an awesome movie! It made me feel like I did when I was a little kid and went to the movies.
Afterward we decided such a hot day warranted a late lunch at one of our favorite sushi places.
After that we headed over to Fred Meyers to pick up some Lego mini figs to add to Tonys collection and some blue cheese for the hot wings we would devour later that night.
While there we had waaay too much fun in the toy aisle
Next we swung by Buffalo Wild Wings to pick up our hot wings and settle in for a relaxing Sunday night.
Tony was very happy with his fathers day weekend.
A new Fathers Day tradition for us is the Rose City Round Up. This is our second year going and I was so excited to take pictures! Here are a few of my favorite from the day. Enjoy!
These pictures were especially exciting for me as I could see a noticeable improvement from the ones I took last year! I’m really proud of these ones. I took many more photos at the Rose City Round Up that you can view here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151030781208142.483578.781233141&type=3&l=3268e09760
The menacing grey clouds made me wonder if Justin’s birthday BBQ might get rained out. After some intermittent sun though the clouds cleared and gave a warm sunny June day to accompany the BBQ.
Their yard was beautiful and all the flowers were in full bloom
Diesel took full advantage of the space by organizing a make shift baseball game
Meanwhile I enjoyed relaxing in the sun and taking pictures of the many dogs also attending the BBQ
The dogs seemed much more interested in what was on the grill than posing for the camera
Justin loved his presents
And after a few drinks the usual party shannanigans ensued!
Everyone had a blast, the food was top notch, and as always it was so awesome to get to hang out with some of my favorite people. Happy Birthday Justin!
